St Thomas' Church Philadelphia

What to expect

Our Sunday services are where many of our smaller communities gather together each week. They are our opportunity to meet with God in a larger setting and to listen to what He is saying, both through people speaking from the front and through learning how to hear Him for ourselves.

If you come to one of our gatherings, you'll be joining about 200-300 people to experience:
  • Singing - we're grateful to God for what he has done, excited about what he's going to do and awestruck by who he is, so we sing to him and to one aonther about it.
  • Preaching - some of our church members are good at helping us to understand God and how to live his way. They talk to us for 30 minutes or so about God, the Bible, life and all sorts of related issues.
  • Listening - we believe that God speaks to us when we read the Bible and by prompting members of the congregation to bring a message from God.
  • Praying - we believe that God changes things when we ask him to, so we ask him to change us and to make the world a better place.

The gathering is led by a member of our church leadership team, a preacher and a worship team who are at the front of the church.

During the meeting you can expect us to take an offering- tins are normally passed around the congregation and the money received goes to the work of the church. On occasions such as Harvest and Christmas we usually give to a cause outside the church. You should feel under no obligation to put anything in, in fact, many people don't put money in the offering bags because they give through other means.

The morning gathering lasts for approximately an hour and a half. The children and young people are in the main church for the first fifteen minutes, after which time they go out to their relevant groups. You are more than welcome to bring your child to their appropriate room. The registration table for the children's groups is in the foyer of the Conference Centre. You can register your child from 10:20am. If you need to know where to take your child please ask at the registration table or Welcome Desk.

The evening gathering has more of a students, young adults and youth focus and there is no specific provision for children. It usually finishes around 8pm.

If you do visit us, please make yourself known- the people will be friendly. If you are a first time visitor please do talk to the people in the blue 'Get Connected' t-shirts by the Welcome Desk. If you register your details with them then you will be sent a pack telling us more about our church and how you can join a Missional Community.
